Join Devi and Shaima for a conversation with Dr. Suresh Kumar, director of the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Kerala, India. The Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM) is a nodal point for research, advocacy and training on palliative care in India and is a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Community Participation in Palliative Care and Long Term Care.
Dr. Suresh Kumar is one of the founding members of the first Pain and Palliative Care Society (PPCS) at Kozhikode in 1993. He was a student at the Government Medical College Kozhikode, working with Dr. MR Rajagopal, then Head of the Department of Anesthesiology. He has worked with communities to create Neighborhood Networks in Palliative Care (NNPC), founding and growing the Institute of Palliative Medicine, and translating the community-based palliative care model to different geographies in India, and other countries such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
We hope you enjoy listening to this wide-ranging conversation on contemporary medicine in India, community mobilizations, and implications for other geographies and initiatives. Leave your comments and queries.
With love, with Sabr.
